Originally scheduled to fight Maycee Barber, Namajunas faced Cortez after Barber withdrew due to health issues. Cortez, stepping in on short notice, delivered a strong performance but couldn't match Namajunas' experience and strategy.
Namajunas displayed patience and poise throughout the 25-minute fight, using speed, movement, and selective pressure. Her effective straight punches and takedowns allowed her to control the fight. Cortez struggled to adjust to Namajunas' game plan, which remained effective for the full duration.
After her win, Namajunas, now with two wins in three flyweight fights, called for a title shot. However, being ranked No. 6, she might need a victory over a higher-ranked opponent to secure a title fight.
